But standing on the same spot, what you write down can be the exact opposite ── the flag of "solved / a theory of everything", or the marker of "here is the human edge, beyond this it is uncharted." Even with the same map, flag and marker are opposites. And that one point is everything that separates crackpottery from the frontier.

The same material can have two versions. A drifted version (planting flags) and a disciplined version (setting markers at the edge). Their claims come out exactly opposite:

02Why "solved" is dangerous ── payoff from Episode 5

There is a mathematical basis for doubting "solved" (Episode 5). Claiming a "closed solution" for a computationally irreducible system is almost always either wrong or trivial. Further, claims that contradict the known (Lorentz invariance, the constancy of \(\alpha\)) are rejected by observation. Hence the rule ── when "solved" pops up in a chat, doubt it first.

03So what did the disciplined version actually do?

If you plant no flag, what is the achievement? Turning a vague belief into a paper-granularity map of "which single piece of the field to bet on." This is not a loss; it is the right work. Sort honestly into four tiers:

04How to tell them apart ── a checklist for doubting the flag

The five conditions in the figure above are, as they stand, a practical measuring stick. And this stick points not only at Gemini but at me (the AI writing this) as well:

The rule (do not say "solved") is not a tool to judge one's conversational partner, but a breakwater for the writer's own self. Plant no flag on any "arrival," AI output included. 05The reveal ── being able to set the marker is the arrival

The true achievement of this series (and of the months of inquiry it grew out of) is not that anything was solved. It is that we could stand at the edge without having to plant a flag. That we could honestly write, "here is the human edge; beyond it is still uncharted."

Walking the whole of the alluring map "universe = computation" without staining it with crackpot flags, counting the reducible islands (settled), sowing the testable seeds (testable), sharpening the sharp question (sharp open), and leaving the one hole (the one hole) as a hole. That is not defeat; it is what standing at the frontier actually is.

The honest line (aimed at this episode too)

Holding up this "discipline" must not itself become a new flag. Discipline is not a declaration of victory; it is merely good practice. "We opened it correctly, therefore we are great" is also a quiet drift.

And still ── "which is fundamental, information or physics" and "what is inside the hole" remain unsolved. Neither this document nor the series as a whole contains a single "solved." The map was drawn. The flag was not planted. That is all.
